- 1 1/2 cups boiling water
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
2. Sift flour with other dry ingredients and blend into creamed mixture.
3. Pour into greased and lightly floured 13x9x2-inch baking pan.
4. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until cake tests done. Spread topping on baked cake as soon as it comes from oven.
Topping:
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk
- 1 cup coconut
- 1 cup nuts, chopped
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
